Within the Eastern Christianity Sector strategy plan and projects in CAPNI organization funded by the Catholic Archdiocese of Cologne, The Ecumenical Institute for the Middle East held a meeting for Iraqi youth. The meeting took place in Carmel Monastery – Duhok from 9th – 11th of November 2023, around 30 young men and women participated from Baghdad, Erbil, Duhok, Mosul, and Alqosh, from six different Christian Educational Institute churches and students from the Ecumenical Institute and the Iraqi Christian Youth Committee (ICYC).
The program included prayers, Bible studies, learning about Ecumenical formation, workshops, Ecumenical visits including a meeting with His Eminence Patriarch Cardinal Louis Sako and many Bishops from different churches, and attending the ordination of His Eminence Bishop Imad Khoshaba the new Bishop of Tehran – Iran Diocese. In addition, the (Catholic Archdiocese of Cologne) representative, (Bishop Meta Leskovar) the ambassador of the Vatican in Iraq with Sister Monera Sacred Heart of Jesus, visited the activity of the Ecumenical Leadership event for Iraqi Youth.
The activity main goal is to provide ecumenical formation for the youth and theology students in Iraq to contribute to the church’s mission and its quest for unity and to preserve the Christian presence in Iraq.
